CBEN's Moderation Policy - (what stays, what goes)
As in all wiki natured projects, CBEN assumes good faith from the people who contribute to the project, and that they are trying to help it, not hurt it.
Although minimal, there may be a few files that a few users may find objectionable
(like drawings with sexual content (?) ).
Upon request, these files are moved to our unmoderated DWG Sandbox category.

Part of CBEN's success is that it is open to all users and contributors.
We believe that the price of openness is tolerating things we might not agree with.
When a user contributes a drawing, we judge intent more than the content itself.
If someone took the time to create a drawing and contribute it, we assume that it has been done in good faith.

Sometimes, well-meaning people make mistakes eg. uploading to wrong categories,
non-useful file descriptions, academic r. files & un-purged files and even doodle drawings.
We do our best to judge the intent of the contributor and moderate CBEN accordingly.

We urge users who upload such files to do so in our unmoderated DWG Sandbox category.

Good Practice Tip:
Before integrating blocks into your drawing you should open and PURGE All Items. Also perform a PRINT PREVIEW to check for Educational Release Plot Stamps. Please Read our Safety Guidelines

Can not download any files.
Lately ( and after a recent Windows update ) it seems that a few users have problems downloading files. Usually the problem is solved by adjusting Windows security settings to allow downloads. screenshot. Also make sure that you have Java script enabled

Regarding Volo... as you know Autodesk has discontinued Volo in favor of Autodesk Express Viewer. Autodesk Express Viewer does not support .dwgs only .dwf. In the coming weeks we will be upgrading all our files to DWF file format. Sorry for the inconvenience. If you would like... subscribe to our newsletter to receive announcement when this is done. CBEN.NET is also Netscape & Firefox ready. If IE fails to download, try using alternative web browser.
3/15/05
We are gald to announce that CBEN.NET is now 100% Firefox compatible.
If Explorer is giving you problems downloading files, give Firefox a try. Download Firefox

I click on a DWG link and nothing happens.
When you click on any link from our listings, the DWG will open (pop up) in a new window. Make sure to set your browser security settings to allow Java scripts and pop ups from this URL. (You can add exception rule for URL: cben.net) Also Add: http://72.22.64.51/ to your browser's exception rules. This CBEN.NET server handles file storage and might be causing the browser error. Note: We do not use pop up windows for advertising. Only links to file downloads open in a new window. CBEN.NET is also Firefox ready. If IE fails to download, try using alternative web browser.

"Drawing File Format Unrecognized" error message.
When I click on a dwg file I get a: Drawing File Format Unrecognized error message in red letters on a white background. This means that the dwg was created on Autocad 2004+ version. You need the current version of AutoCad to open the file. Because of the limited amount of users of the new version of AutoCad, if you encounter one of these files, please report it so it can be removed.

PRODUCED BY AN AUTODESK EDUCATIONAL PRODUCT plot stamps.
Untitled Document

Files created / edited on an educational version of AutoCad will print a Plot Stamp identifying the product license.
You will see : " PRODUCED BY AN AUTODESK EDUCATIONAL PRODUCT " printed on all four sides of the sheet.

You can verify files before hand by seeing a plot preview before integrating them to your drawing.

This is a security measure installed by Autodesk to protect their licensing rights.

Unfortunately this Plot Stamp can not be removed with AutoCAD.
However if you have a contaminated file you want to fix, there is a new FIX out there.

If you encounter one of these files please REPORT IT immediately so it can be removed from the database. More Info
You can protect your drawings by using Manusoft Software.
Download Manusoft plug-in
Unverified: Save the infected file as .dwf or dxf format. Reopen, edit and resave as your version platform.

Updated 4/20/06
Contamination of files with these plot stamps can set you back many hours of work.
Here is a sure FIX:

Strange characters displayed instead of the block.
This means that the Volo View plug-in is not installed. Or you are trying to view the site using Netscape. Remember the Volo plug in is for IE only.

The drawing seems to have loaded but I get a blank page.
Check you browser's setting to allow java scripts.

CBEN.NET - File Formats
We typically prefer AutoCAD 2000 file format, however we do have many R14 & DXF files.

Drawing Scale?
Drawing scales are as As Submitted by users. We ask that when you upload a file that it is scaled properly and or insert a graphic scale to the file.

Some files have Thumbnail Images others have an icon.
Recently uploaded files will have default icon you selected. If the file is approved, a thumbnail image will be created for it. Thumnbnails typically created on Sundays. Note: .zip files will not have a thumbnail. Zoom Extent your dwg before upload, as this will show you what the Thumbnail will look like.

DWG Newsletter
DWGnews is our periodic newsletter which contains the most recent contributions to CBEN.NET. Typically delivered +/- every 2 weeks. You can opt in and out as you wish. All opt outs are honored. We do not spam our users.

File Creation Guide
Thanks to all our contributors and users who have contributed to the library.
Here are a few guidelines that will help us maintain CBEN's database.
There are certain types of files that we prefer.

1. Although .zip files may contain more quantity, we prefer .dwg files rather than .zip.
This is because .zip files do not have thumbnail previews.
If you want your file to have a thumbnail... upload as .dwg.

2. CBEN.NET accepts all .dwg files. However, R. 2004+ file format have to be translated to an earlier release so it can be re posted.
This WILL delay thumbnail creation.
Please, SAVE your files as R.14 - R.2002 format.

A PERFECT file is a scaled R14-R2002 .dwg file, containing one drawing on one layer.
The drawing should be Pasted as Block using insertion point 0,0
Make sure you PURGE all, and zoom extent your drawing and make sure you are uploading to the correct directories.
Note: The thumbnail will use zoom extent to create the image.
When you enter a description for your file, be as descriptive as possible as the site's search will look through them to get search results.
If you like, you can add your email and URL to the file's description. ;)

What we HATE: Files that have been created using an educational release with the plot stamps.
Please do NOT upload these files as they can be very troublesome for all.
If you encounter one of these files, REPORT IT IMMEDIATELY so it can be removed.
Please do NOT Upload files that infringe on copyrights.
As far as software, ie: Viewers,Block Managers, " add-ons", etc, You can upload up to 10mb trialware, shareware & freeware. Please upload in .ZIP format.
Do NOT upload any software that violates vendor's licencing agreement.

This site is not a "warez" site.
Do NOT post any serial numbers, key generators, cracks or anything intended to violate the software vendors licencing agreement.

Couldn't find the block you were looking for?
You can post request for it here.
Somebody out there must have it!
Join CBEN's Groups . You can post an open request to all members. Moderated by: CBEN.NET ( Only CAD Block requests will be allowed )

DWG Sandbox
CBEN's Sandbox is an area where users can test uploading and file editing capabilities. This category is unmoderated. If you are not sure just how to upload to categories try testing here first.

Where is the file I uploaded?
If you uploaded a file and it is no longer where you uploaded it to:
1. The file could have been uploaded to a wrong directory and moved to the correct one.
2. The file could have been created using an Education Release of AutoCAD and deleted.
3. The file could have been deemed vandalism, junk or unusable and deleted.

Could you send me all the People blocks you have via email?
No.

Vandalism
Like any wiki natured project, CBEN is subject to vandalism.
For the most part, we rely on our community to alert us of such acts.

The most common types of vandalism are; files uploaded with blank content or containing nonsense and such.
These types of files are usually easy to spot.
They may name their file "test.dwg" or "Drawing 1.dwg".
Lately, there has been an increase in drawings with ..shall we say; "adult content"
Please do not upload this content. To report a file please note file name and directory .

Upon review, careful attention is given to whether uploads made are beneficial, detrimental but well intended, or outright vandalism.
Note:
Files that display an icon (rather than a preview) means that the uploaded file
has not been moderated/reviewed for inclusion or immediate deletion.
